Haunted adventures: Places to get your scare on for Halloween

Before students became “too old,” trick-or-treating was a common thing that happened on every Halloween night. But with age we lose interest in that and like to do things other than trick-or-treating. Most would rather go to haunted houses and watch scary movies. It gives more of a thrill for those who don’t find it age appropriate to dress up and walk house to house asking for candy. While students love watching scary movies, some enjoy going to haunted places and experiencing the scares in real life.

A highly recommended haunted house among students is Zombie Toxin. The haunted house is based in Junction City and many students from Manhattan High go to enjoy the spooky nights. Even students who don’t get scared easily enjoy the haunted house but it does have an acquired taste.

“I have been to Zombie Toxin twice,” freshman Taylor Claussen said. “A lot of friend groups go together too. For me haunted houses aren’t really all that scary so I like laughing at other people’s reactions and the actors when they try and scare me. ”

If you don’t enjoy being scared, then maybe trick-or-treating would be a better option but if you are looking to prove how brave you are, students think this is a good way to do that. The main reason students hesitate to go to Zombie Toxin are the prices. It is $18 for a regular ticket and $23 for a speed pass.

“It is a fairly reasonable price but for the amount of people that go I think that they could lower the prices a little bit,” Claussen said.

Even though the prices are a bit on the high side, students think that it is well worth it and they would like to keep going in the future so long as their high school lives don’t prevent it.

If you don’t want to drive all the way to Junction City for a slightly pricy haunted house then you could consider going to Britt’s Garden Acres where they have a scary corn maze that you can go in for only $10 per person. During this event you start by entering the maze. In the maze there are people in costumes hiding among the corn with various weapons. These people might chase you through the maze or just jump out and scare you all while you’re trying to navigate your way through the maze in the dark. If you’re looking for a cheap, fun way to spend your halloween night this might be a good option for you.

There are many more options well within driving distance of Manhattan if you are looking for something fun to do with your friends. Haunted houses and scary corn mazes are two out of many options that are offered for students who don’t want to go trick-or-treating. You just have to find what fits you and your friends.
