Mattress Firms, do they truly sell mattresses?

Driving around other towns, you probably don’t realize how many Mattress Firms are in that town and even on the same street! There is a conspiracy theory that the stores are truly money laundering places. The theory basically states that the stores don’t truly exist and mattress selling is a cover up.

The term money laundering came in the 1920’s during the prohibition time. Criminals in the United States started smuggling alcohol with a decent amount of profit coming along with it. To not have the government catch on with their illegal money, they put their access money into laundry businesses and had that money as the laundry place’s profit.

The reason behind this conspiracy of Mattress Firms really being money laundering business is pretty wild. There have been people putting on Reddit and other social media places statements that say, upon walking into a Mattress Firm store there is never any other customers in the store. In addition, people have made YouTube videos and tweets about how there are three or four stores on one street in their town, some right across the street from each other. Buying mattresses isn’t something people do a lot, which would explain why there isn’t other customers in the store. So why are there multiple stores on one street if mattresses aren’t a high demand?

When hiding one’s money, the most common places are in a house where there are everyday items. The top place for hiding money is in a mattress!

Now the company’s CEO did come out after this theory became popular denying that this was true.

“The idea that the proximity of Mattress Firm store locations is related to money laundering or any illegal activity is absolutely false,” CEO Ken Murphy told Business Insider in a statement.

Although that is what the CEO said, should we believe everything people say? After all, wouldn’t they defend the idea to not get caught?
