Athlete of the Month

This month sophomore Burke Belanger, Midfielder from the Manhattan soccer team, is The Mentor’s Athlete of the Month of September for the leadership he has shown throughout his games.

“For me leadership means to hype everyone up before games and to get them all to stay focused and stay organized on the field,” Belanger said.

So far this season Belanger has started all seven games for the Varsity team and has recorded one assist so far. In those seven games he has shown a lot of leadership through his communication on the field to his teammates.

“Our goal this season is to go all the way to state and to lose as little games as possible” Belanger said.

Honorable mention

Senior kicker Braxton Frey put on a tremendous show in Manhattan football’s overtime win over Derby in the season opener. Frey kicked the game-winning field goal in Manhattan’s first game of the season to close an unforgettable night for him and his team.

“My head was clear,” Frey said. “I didn’t hear any other noise, I was just focused on hitting it straight through the upright.”
