After an outstanding season with only two losses and a third place finish at State, senior Jillian Harkin has been chosen as The Mentor’s October Athlete of the Month.

Harkin, senior tennis player, has played for the Manhattan High School girls tennis team all four years she was in high school.

“I was especially proud of my last match, especially knowing that that was going to be my last match ever in high school and wanting to be proud of it,” Harkin said. “I’m super proud of the way I played and competed the whole weekend.”

A huge part of being a team player and being an upperclassmen in sports is showing leadership. Harkin represented how to be both a good teammate and a good leader.

“I think I had a lot of good leadership when I was a freshman and a sophomore,” Harkin said. “I think I kind of adopted that into what I wanted to do when I was a junior and a senior.”
