Deep talk. Senior Lucas Holdren (far left) leads a conversation about this week’s Bible passage with a small group of freshmen and sophomores.

The voices of 50 to 60 students of all backgrounds fill the North Gym, athletes and non-athletes alike congregating on Thursday mornings to meet for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Fellowship of Christian Athletes, or FCA, is led by community member and North Central Kansas Area FCA representative Kevin Sanders, a new FCA employee and leader this year. This club strives to bring more individuals in Manhattan High School to Christ. Social Studies teacher Allen Jackson and Digital Learning Coordinator Andy Cassel help organize the club as well.

The meetings start with some social (fellowship) time, and then the members get together to go over announcements and the Bible verses that the members later go over that day. For instance, the most scripture was Mark 10. Then, the members split off into six or so small-groups to discuss the Bible verse and how it applies to students’ lives today. Finally, the groups reconvene and pray for the school, the students, the faculty and staff, and the community.

Students feel this club has made a very positive impact on them and the school in general.

“It’s a great place to talk about Jesus, and it’s a great way to spread the light of Jesus into the world,” Daphne Anderson, one such student, commented.

FCA meets every Thursday from 7 to 7:30 a.m., and welcomes new members.
