Why we should have a rotating block schedule everyday

Have you ever stayed up until midnight cramming in homework for three AP classes? How about four core classes?

This is a common event for many students, and it might happen several times a week.

Now, think about how much more time you would have for homework if you had four classes a day. You would have more free time and less stress cramming.

That is why MHS should change to a block schedule everyday because it would better student’s time management, it would be less stressful for students and teachers, and increase student’s grades.

One thing all high schoolers experience at least one point in their four years is putting off their homework one night, not thinking about it, and finding out you missed things in multiple classes the next day. With seven classes a day, there are practically no days where you’re not doing homework for several classes.

If we moved to eight classes, with four classes a day, this would be less of a problem. You would only have homework for a class every other day. This would mean better time management and less cramming for every class.

A block schedule would consist of six classes. Three on “A-day,” and Three on “B-day.” These classes would use the number system of A1, A2, A3, and A4 for A-days. On B-days, it would be B5, B6, B7, and B8. The schedule each day would look something like this: your first class would be 8:10-9:40, and your second class would be 9:45-11:05. After second hour would either be lunch or your third hour. The great thing about block schedules is an hour and a half lunch! This gives students way more free time for off-campus lunch and allows you to go out with your friends without the stress of having no time for actually eating somewhere. First lunch/third hour would be from 11:10-12:40. Then second lunch/third hour would be from 12:45-3:10.

Now, this might be a little confusing at first, but it would give students more time to learn in each class and more time to get homework done. The school year would be the same amount of days and students would get an hour and a half lunch too.

This would also create less stress for students as well, since more homework time leads to doing it in class free time and not cramming it at home when they have work or activities after school with it.
