Manhattan Wins Regionals

The Manhattan High football team improved to 9-1 after a 21-7 win over Lawrence Freestate last Friday.

Manhattan took control of the ground against Freestate rushing for 288 yards with junior Carter Aslin having 161 and senior Charles Morgan and junior Jaydin Hudley taking the other yards. In the first quarter Manhattan established the run game with an 86 yard running only  drive resulting in a touchdown by Hudley taking an early lead 7-0. Going into the second, both defenses held strong forcing each other to punt 3 times each. After the punt fest Manhattan drove down the field to score a touchdown taking the lead 14-0 going into the half.

“We started  our run game early and we wore out their defense and we eventually got through to them,” Aslin said 

In the third on Manhattans first drive they went down the field for Aslin to score his second rushing touchdown of the night taking a 21-0 lead. After the score Freestate drove down the field to take the lead down to 14.

In the fourth Manhattan held strong on defense to close out the game 21-7 to win Regionals and head to Sectionals.

“Our run game was really strong tonight and that was a big part of this game ,” Hudley said 

Manhattan’s next game will be Friday against Derby Nov 10.

He found out about the Publications class before his freshman year and decided he might want to do sports journalism as a career. “I really like sports because they ard entertaining,” Ivester said. “I like soccer because I play with my friends.”  Ivester is a one-sport athlete focusing on soccer, where he is a right back.  “I love playing right back because I get to truck people,” he said. “My most memorable moment in soccer was when I rammed into a kid at full speed and got a yellow card.” Ivester’s hobbies beyond soccer include video games.
