March 8 Athlete of the Week: Dustin Wichman

Junior Dustin Wichman started bowling when he was little and kept with it all the way to high school.

“When I was younger I went to a bowling party and I was horrible at it and I just didn’t want to be horrible anymore so I joined a youth league and just kind of got into it and I’ve been doing it ever since,” Wichman said.

The results of bowling all that time let him win regionals in Olathe Feb. 26 and eventually place in state. Wichman brought home fifth place with a series score of 707 at Thursday’s 6A state championship at Northrock Lanes in Wichita.

“I was a little nervous at the start just because I wanted to bowl well, but then we started bowling I calmed down,” Wichman said.

After knowing what it’s like going to state this year, Wichman prepares himself for next year and its winnings.

“I’m just going to keep bowling in leagues, go around the state and bowl in some tournaments for next year,” Wichman said.
