On Oct. 20, 2017, Taylor Swift released a new single “Gorgeous.” With over 16 million plays on Spotify, it could be considered a successful song. Compared to her last hit single “Look What You Made Me Do” with over 223 million plays, it struggles to compare. Currently, “Gorgeous” does not have a place for itself on top 100 songs nor is it on top 40 pop songs, while other works of hers have been and currently still are. One thing you can say about the song is it’s original and is something different yet again compared to Taylor’s other work.

When first listening to the song I immediately thought that this was completely different than “Look What You Made Me Do”. The beat of the song, as well as the feeling you get from it, were like polar opposites. “Gorgeous” begins with a simple beat that carries through the song and has more of a casual feeling to it. It’s one of those songs that you would be content just to listen to you wouldn’t feel compelled to get up and dance to it, and while this isn’t for everybody it has made many people, including myself, happy with this work. “Look What You Made Me Do,” on the other hand, demands your attention and for you to move with it. Whether it be small hand movements or full-out dancing that it has that feel, however those type of songs in my opinion do get old quite quickly.

For not being a Taylor Swift person in the beginning, I can say I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the new song. I was expecting something similar to “Look What You Made Me Do.” Songs like that are good for one maybe two listens and then I don’t want to hear it again. When the song started, however, I realized this is a song that I would play more often and possibly add to my library or one of my playlists. In my opinion this is one of her best songs. While it may not be the most catchy song I still like it.
